# GETSELECTION

#### Syntax <a href="#syntax.22" id="syntax.22"></a>

**GETSELECTION**(widget; *type*)

* *widget - the menu widget from which the selection should be returned* - ***Value type**: widget reference*
* *type* - defines if the position or the value of the selected entry should be returned - ***Value type**: constant (optional, default value: <mark style="color:red;">position</mark>)*\
  Possible values are
  * *<mark style="color:red;">position</mark>* - the position of the currently selected entry is returned
  * *<mark style="color:red;">value</mark>* - the value of the currently selected entry is returned
  * *<mark style="color:red;">valuepath</mark>* - the value and all values of its parents are returned, as a row range of values.
